Oh – the hustle. The bustle!
Volunteer drivers (the nicest in the world – like Cathy Parsons and Kim Hemeon) are scurrying to pick up delegates and drive them from the airport. Some have to look for lost ones wandering the east coast trail on highway 10. But that’s another story.
Friendly hotel receptionists are rebooking our rooms because it seems some of us arrived a day early according to their notes.
Nice hotel bosses give staff 2 days off if they make a mistake, and will give you 2 days off too, if you ask. I did.
Strong, young (and really cute) men are offering to carry heavy bags full of camera gear up four flights of stairs. Saying no brings the saddest look to their faces. (Make note – must find more things for him to carry up and down. )
The Masonic Temple is busily giving out delegate bags and tickets to tonight’s opening show ( documentary “To Dublin With Love” with star Ron Hynes playing at the opening party after the show.)
Happy delegates are going through their swag: mmm chocolate from Food for Thought, coupons from great stores like Tangled and Hava Java, and Johnny Ruth guilt-free no sweat-shop scarves and hats that look like…uhhhh…hmm…well…
Yes – it’s Tuesday October 16th, 2007, and The St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival is now officially declared OPEN.
