Less Than One Week Till The St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival

women’s film festival poster

Countdown!

It’s only one week away to the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival, and my first thought is I can’t wait. Just look how beautiful the poster is - that just screams good times are a-waiting.

My second thought is that I am going to absolutely die having to type that title out in full over and over for the next few weeks. So, I think we should give the festival a nickname. Like SJIWFF.

Not bad, huh?

Here’s how it could be used in a sentence.

“Going to catch some films at SJIWFF this year?”

“Of course, I go SJIWFFing every year.”

“Me too. Ever since SJIWFF won the prestigious “2005 Event of the Year”* by the City of St. John’s, it’s become my favourite cultural event.”

“A-SJIWFFing we will go, A-SJIWFFing we will go,
Hi ho and derry o…”

Oh, gawd - it’s beautiful! It just rolls off the tongue. Yet, it has a real energy, non? Even with that silent W.

And here’s good news. A quick Google scan shows there is no other Sjiwff in the world. Wow, what are the chances of that? That means it’s all ours - our little Sjiwff.

I’m sold.

* 2005 is coincidentally the year I attended my first Sjiwff. I’m just saying…

Hey Irene. I hear ya on the SJIWFF thing. As publicist and mangler er I mean manager, for Ron Hynes, who you’ve described in your latest blog as “the star” of the festival’s gala opening film “To Dublin With Love”, I too had to type the words St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival too many times. Then there’s the fact that Ron Hynes is not a woman (although he does profess to be “in touch with my female side”). Anyway, thanks for the shout out. Enjoy SJIWFFing and party right hard! lh
