We drove out the second day to watch a filming of
Contestant 51. Collin Padden, tried out for the On The Lot tv show and came in at #51 – which as he puts it, is just one contestant away from being on the real team. “Collin’s” been making films along with the real filmmakers following their same themes.
Todays shoot is in the desert. We are told upon arrival that there are rattlesnakes in the desert. There is also a fake old western town here called Disney’s Golden Oaks Ranch.
It’s very hot in the desert. I immediately stop off at the saloon.

Even though film sets aren’t the most fascinating places to be, I love them. I love the craft of filmmaking. I think it’s a very hard thing to do and I marvel at the teamsmanship that needs to take place in order to get it done. (Kind of like the Hill and Knowlton / Ford team that managed to pull this trip all together and make it such a smash hit. But that’s another post.)

I watch Collin (Steven Siddel) do take after take, and wish it were me fighting boredom amongst the brambles, tumble weed and rattlesnakes. Maybe next time?
I listen to Adventure Blogger Kraig talk about mountain climbing and I do not wish to do that. Ever.

I do think Kraig’s Man Brooch epaulet on his right shoulder is wonderful though. Very adventure-punk-like.
Then I have the most yummy tuna steak with chipotle pepper sauce ever. As good as it was in the old west, I bet.

Star, or contestant 51, Collin Padden / Steven Siddel came out and chatted with us a bit. Even though he is from New York, he was at once smitten by his Man Brooch. He’s off to Vegas after this last shoot so we are sure it’ll bring him luck.

After lunch we drive back through the strange desert landscape to LA. Next up? Sight seeing.
